Nice, good quality day packReview by Veronica
This was my first Gossamer Gear purchase, and so was not sure what to expect. But it is a fantastic pack, very well built, great quality.

I have only done a couple of day hikes in it, but the fit is great (I'm 5'6, and everything on this pack is movable so you can just shape it however you like), and it has all that is needed for a good pack. I'm especially happy with the side pockets, the front zip, the hipbelt pockets, and that it has a somewhat separated space for the water reservoir (I have a camelbak). It seemed on the almost-too-big side for me at first, but again, with the straps you can compress it and make it a good size pack for a day hike (I tend to take just very few items with me --- some food, water, bug spray, first aid kit).

It is also extremely lightweight --- I guess I had never had a truly lightweight pack before, because its weight (or the lack of it) really surprised me.

Overall, it's a great day pack, I would strongly recommend. (Posted on 8/22/15)
Great pack for day hikes or summer overnightsReview by Allgood
The Type II is a great all around daypack or overnight for the uber light hiker. The 26L is large enough to carry extra layers, 10 essentials and a hydration bladder. The numerous pockets are great for holding your map, headlamp, snacks and any items you need quick access to throughout the day. 3 internal loops work well with a small carabiner to secure your car keys while out in the field or to help hold up your hydration bladder.

The hip belt does have a tendency to twist as another review states, but really once you set it to the proper size it makes little difference in the fit or comfort.

All in all this a great day pack and has quickly become the workhorse of my pack line up.

Versatile PackReview by terb49
I was looking for a lightweight daypack that I could pack full of gear, and this lived up to its promise. I've only taken this out 5-6 times, but I couldn't be more satisfied.

I recently took a 2-day trip to the Presidentials & stayed at the Madison hut. The Type 2 comfortably held all the gear I needed. No matter how much gear I've stuffed in it, the Type 2 has been comfortable on my back, and never strained my shoulders or back.

The fabric has been tough enough to survive a few scrapes with trees and boulders. I love the hipbelt pockets - it's great to have snacks & a few small items right there.

I'm looking forward to using this a lot more for longer day hikes, and I'm going to try to load this up for a weekend overnight, too. (Posted on 7/25/15)
A nice day sackReview by PETER (Munro277)
So most of my hiking is backpacking, but i thought I'd give this a try as a daypack.

Ive only day hiked a few times this year, but the carry has been great. I can reach round and pull my drinks bottle out pretty easily. This pack also has a very handy key loop in the lid pocket. (Posted on 4/25/15)
Excellent All Around PackReview by Heather
The Type 2 is incredibly versatile. I love it for peakbagging and longer dayhikes. I've done an overnight with it as well. The built in padding on the back is very good when I'm carrying a helmet, harness, and crampons. The hip belt pockets are perfect for keeping necessities handy.
My only caveat is that the hip belt adjusters nearest the pack body frequently loosen and/or get twisted when taking the pack on and off. It's annoying, but really a minor issue that you get used to auto checking for each time you stand up from break. (Posted on 2/20/15)
Tough Pack That Does It AllReview by Dan
I originally picked up this pack to use on a one-night Presidential Traverse in NH. I was going to be staying at the AMC's Lakes of the Clouds hut, so I wouldn't need to carry shelter, cooking supplies or much sleeping gear. The Type 2 fit my layers, lunches, first aid kit, and other minor gear perfectly. It was also tough enough to stand up to some pretty nasty weather.

In the height of summer, I've even used this pack for a 3-day backpacking trip. It was loaded to the gills with my hammock, quilt, tarp, and other gear (maybe 15lbs with food and water), but it was still comfortable to carry all day.

This pack is the perfect size to have tons of uses. Travel, commuting, the gym, day hikes, backpacking... It's pretty versatile.

The Robic nylon fabric is very tough. I took a few tumbles onto rocks while wearing this pack. I'm also not shy about dropping the pack on the ground or squeezing through tight spaces. The pack still doesn't have a scratch on it.

The shoulder harness is very comfortable, although I don't think it would be great with heavier loads. This being a small-volume pack, that should be a non-issue. The rib strap is a nice touch, and I prefer it over the sternum strap most of the time.

The daisy chain and ice axe loops are features that I have little use for personally, but I'm sure many people may need those options. Both of these are bright purple, which gives this grey pack the perfect amount of color. I think they look really sharp.

All in all, I like this pack a lot and hope to get a lot more use out of it. (Posted on 9/26/14)
Ultimate multifunctional packReview by Allison
I have been looking to replace my day pack for quite some time and the Type 2 was definitely an upgrade from what I carried before! At 1400 cubic inches (23L) it is small and light enough (15.65 oz total) for peak bagging, but can also serve as an overnight pack as well.

The Robic fabric on the body of the pack has a slick feel to it. It's tough and is made to shed water. The material feels really durable but surprisingly light.

My favorite part of this pack is all the compartments. It's really easy to stay organized. You can even store a laptop in this pack for commuting!

I've been using a bladder a lot in the warmer months so I am glad to have two integrated hydration hose ports. The shoulder straps have been designed to be breathable and are very comfortable. If you prefer water bottles, there are two large mesh side pockets are the perfect size for water bottles. The mesh has been redesigned to have more stretch and seems much tougher than the mesh used on older Gossamer Gear packs.

Many UL packs don't come with large hipbelt pockets, but the Type 2 does. It's nice to have snacks and my camera within reach. The hip belt is removable as well.

There is a Daisy Chain and an Ice Axe Loop. This will extend my pack us into winter when I know I won't need to store snowshoes as I can carry an ice axe and use the Daisy Chain strap my crampons to the outside of the pack. I may be able to come up with a system to strap my snowshoes on. I haven't thought that far into winter hiking yet. The material is much more puncture resistant so I may give that a try.

The Type 2 is actually more than I expected from a daypack. Like all Gossamer Gear packs, it's really well designed to be UL but still provide all the features you would need in a day pack. (Posted on 9/22/14)
