|Description||The Mariposa™ Ultralight backpack, is absolutely loaded with size, features, pockets, and new materials. Built on the same basic platform as previous iterations we have upgraded it for fit, comfort, durability, functionality, and feature set. The Mariposa™ is constructed largely of our custom 100 and 200 denier Robic nylon fabric for a sweet spot blend of toughness and weight. New for this model is a completely revamped unisex harness, which coupled with our new plush padded hipbelt with integrated pockets makes for a comfortable functional ride.
The Mariposa™ has 7 exterior pockets for loads of options for organizing and accessing your gear.
The Mariposa™ Ultralight is a top loader and utilizes our OTT™ (over-the-top) closure system for a simple, solid, secure closure that also includes our largest zippered top pocket. Inside the pack you'll find an updated version of our proprietary removable stay.
At just over a pound and a half complete, the Mariposa™ remains Ultralight to the core and is tougher and more feature rich than ever.
The Mariposa™ ultralght backpack is a LARGE volume pack that is suitable for most any type of backpacking trip.
The Mariposa™ is best with loads under 30lbs but will handle up to 35 just fine.
It comes with a SitLight™ pad, removable stay, and one meter of cord and 2 cordlocks. The belt is sold separately to allow customers to choose the size they need.

I love the large side pocket for storing my tent and ground sheet. The mesh outer pocket is great for carrying camp shoes or other items needed for same day. I don't use a stuff sack for my down sleeping bag and there is plenty of room for leaving it unfurled. Although it is rated to carry 30-35lbs, I most often carry around 18-22lbs.
This pack washes well. I just remove the stay and waist belt and throw it in my washing machine then hang to dry. It looks new after a good year of use, my gen 4 also looks new after 2 years of use. (Posted on 2/11/15)

Second, Although I am 6' tall my back measures just small enough to fit a med. That doesn't bother me because I like the little bit lighter weight and to wear my pack fairly high on my back. Although the pack is VERY comfy the shoulder straps are extended as long as possible in order for me to wear it. I am thick in the chest, ribs, and shoulders so that doesn't help but maybe a little more room to adjust the shoulder straps would be nice... after all they do include a clip so you can clip the excess strap material together so a little more length wouldn't really get in the way... plus trimming excess strap material is easy if it is in the way but adding is impossible. If I were any bigger this bag wouldn't work for me because the straps are just that short.
All in all I love this bag. It's insanely comfy when you use a sleeping pad as your back rest but also keep in mind if you sweat your sleeping pad will get wet and you must dry it before you sleep on it. The pockets are huge and the mesh is MUCH stronger than one would expect. Besides the short shoulder straps (for my big frame) I have nothing to complain about. Easily the best bag I've worn.
I'm 6' 215lbs I bought this bag with my own money and was not asked to do a review. This was done simply to help others make informed decisions. I have one trip on this bag so far but will be doing many more. I will continue to update my review if anything changes. NOTE FROM GOSSAMER GEAR : It is Very possible this customer would be better suited in a Large Mariposa at 6' tall. (Posted on 1/20/15)
