UpgradeReview by Rich
I'm coming off a Gregory Z40, a good pack but 3.5 lbs. The light weight Pilgrim, in a Large, fit like a glove on my 6'1" frame. The outside pouch is just right for shedding gloves and layers as the morning warms in the Rockies. The roll top expands and could hold a tent, if needed. I ordered the inflatable pad and it's worth it, if only to whip out the bulb and give a couple of squeezes in front of the traditional framed pack crowd. It functions well and pads up the back. The sternum strap, with a fixed position, is far better than the sliding type that simply migrates to the point of least resistance. The shoulder straps are minimal and easily adjusted, as is the hip belt. The haul loop is large enough for a big hand. The side bottle pockets are deep so the bottle doesn't fall out when bending over, although I can't reach the bottle with the pack on. The two straps above the side pockets could accommodate a tent, fly, or other long stuff sack. With all the additional storage spots, this pack looks like it could easily handle 50L. After much thought and research, the Pilgrim 36 is the upgrade I was looking for. (Posted on 9/26/16)
Happy so far.Review by BiggDee
I picked this pack up at close-out pricing prior to a seven day trip on a section of the Sierra High Route. Managed to keep the total weight at about 30 lbs on day one (with a little room left over). It was my first experience with an ultralight frameless "rucksack" design and the pack performed flawlessly IMHO. Small, compact design carries the load close and is perfect for rugged off-trail scrambling. Upon receiving the pack. I replaced the egg-crate sit pad with a folded Thin Light foam pad for support and it triple-dutied as a sit-pad and a ground tarp. I also stashed my folded inflatable sleep pad in the interior pocket for additional back support. Really like the simple roll-top closure and large exterior stretch mesh pocket - made getting at gear easy. I added 1/8" shock cord to the provided attachment points, which I find useful for exterior lashing. This is a versatile pack that carries a surprisingly large amount gear for its size. The close-out pricing can't be beat. Get one while they are still around. (Posted on 9/4/16)
Comfortable with weightReview by rainyguy
I had no problem fitting 4 days worth gear and food comfortably (3 season conditions). Attached hipbelt is a nice feature, kept the weight secure to my body. I have been looking for a roll top backpack for some time, glad I found this. Will recommend to others. (Posted on 8/24/15)
