Fantastic Review by WesternNCGuy

This pack is light enough and versatile enough to serve all four seasons. It handles 10 plus pounds without need of a stay and with the addition of an inflatable framesheet substitute 25 pounds is fine. Above that, a stay and framesheet could handle a pretty heavy payload but I haven't needed it though the volume is there if used wisely. No quality issues, everything has held up fine to established trail hiking and light trail blazing. This pack is the only one I need. (Posted on 5/27/14)
Great capacity, build quality and comfort - Perfect pack! Review by Barrie

At just under 2lbs it certainly beats any other pack I've had but, given that it's a third of the weight of my last pack I wasn't sure about durability. Well, it seems very well built and is standing up well so far.
The big surprise to me was just how well it fits and how comfortable it is. I'm 6'4" and 230 lbs and ordered the XL with an XL belt and it's a great fit, a little larger than it needs to be if anything.
The shoulder straps and hip belt are a nice width, spreading the load well and avoiding pressure points.
Main compartment is roomy enough for a bear can plus pretty much everything else I carry. Long side pocket is perfect for my Big Agnes Fly Creek UL1 tent so I don't have to unpack everything when I reach my destination. Hip belt pockets are nice and large so I can get trail snacks, map, compass and phone in there.
These guys thought of everything, very impressed! (Posted on 3/21/14)
A great pack for the longer haul Review by SAm

We did about 8 days on the PCT late this summer {Sept 2013}
going over Forester Pass and ultimately Mt Whitney from the Guitar Lake side. Saw several afternoons with rain, but nothing got wet in my Mariposa. After Mt. Whitney we stayed at Trail camp with wind {about 15 to 20 mph} in the evening with some rain. Again nothing wet. This is an extremely stable pack. I had the stays in because we had to carry bear canisters and it never shifted or became uncomfortable. This pack can easilycarry a full size bear canister with extra clothes, tent, sleeping bag, water purification system or whatever. I've used it several times since for fall trips being we're back in Alaska. I looked at several packs before the PCT trip and glad to report the Mariposa is a keeper. (Posted on 1/14/14)
fantastic packing system Review by Emerson

My Mariposa has seen about 1000 miles over the last five years, mostly AT and western NC. It's versatility is outstanding. This backpack encourages creativity, as it is set up to customize. You can use whatever kind of padding you want for the back. I use my inflatable mattress. The exterior pockets make organization and access simple. This really makes a difference in getting in and out of camp quickly. I also remove the stays and use it for a 45 liter kayak bag, for portages and distant camps from the shore. Most importantly, the Mariposa is a great product because it invites users to innovate and think creativity about their trail systems. Tinker with it. Have fun. From 12 pounds to 25 plus 8 liters of water, this thing is an incredible value for a well-appointed UL pack that can handle week-long winter trips without resupply. (Posted on 10/6/13)

Great backpack. I use it for solo trips in the Sierras. Easily holds bear canister, sleeping bag, shelter etc. with plenty room to spare.

Only thing I would change on this pack is the top closure. The top has a long narrow opening. A shorter closure would suffice. I have modified my pack by cutting and adding buttons so it is easier to access contents. (Posted on 9/14/13)

Since making the jump to UL gear and picking up my Mariposa backpack my back and legs have never been happier! This is a great all around backpack with plenty of room for multi day excursions. I just finished 6 days and 5 nights in Yosemite NP with mine carrying a bear canister and total weight was around around 30lbs. Very comfortable pack and highly recommended! These guys at GG make some great products! (Posted on 9/4/13)
Great pack for carrying that little extra! Review by Mike

Just completed the John Muir Trail with my wife and 2 kids (7&9). I needed a pack that could haul extra gear if needed and the mariposa rose to the top of the list. I knew I'd have to shoulder some of my kids things if the going got rough and also heavy food loads for the second half (southbound) out of Muir Trail Ranch. I carried 16 person days of food along with shelter for 4, stove, water treatment, camera, fishing gear, personal clothing, my kids rain gear etc. I left MTR with 37 pounds in my pack. I should note that I used the new Air Beam back pad. When the load got heavy, I was glad I did. While I was carrying more than I wanted, my legs soon got used to it. The comfort of the pack was never in question though. I missed having accessible pockets on both sides but soon enjoyed the massive amount of space the long side pocket afforded: fuel bottles at the bottom, food bag for the day next, and windshirt/bandana/sunglasses/hat at the top. The lid proved useful for small bagged items: first aid, trail wallet etc. I used front pockets on the shoulder straps for extra close at hand items: camera, snacks, mixed drinks, and 1 hip pockets for things that rarely came out: insect repellent, head net, headlamps and the other for hard candy and snacks. A bear can fits nicely vertically and the mariposa leaves plenty of room for stuffing smaller items around it to get a nice even load. Great pack for larger loads and even heavier loads for a short period of time. Well done AwesomerGear! (Posted on 8/24/13)

Got the pack for Christmas. I have loaded it with 28 lbs of gear and it felt great. I had issues with my Gregory Z65 pulling on my shoulders but the Mariposa does not pull at all. I have no problem getting all my gear in the pack. The outside pockets are roomy and convenient. I am very happy with this pack!!! (Posted on 8/23/13)
Great Backpack Review by Paul

I bought this backpack earlier this year. I have used it on the AT in Maine and on Boy Scout outings. What an improvement versus my old external frame pack that my wife bought me. I did a great deal a of research for a new backpack. The weight and size of the pack is outstanding. Plenty of room to carry everything I need on a multi day trip. The only draw back is the padding against my shoulders. It is not as padded as much as my old pack. (Posted on 8/21/13)
Ultralight with all the conveniences Review by Aliz

This pack is the perfect size for someone who is switching to lightweight gear for the first time. I love that my 3/8" thick torso pad can fit into the back as padding, and how the hip belt pockets are big enough to hold all the essentials (pocket knife, flashlight, matches/lighter, trail mix, cell phone). The long side pocket can easily fit a 2-person UL tent.

The pack is very strong. I was able to haul a heavier (40 lb) load for a very short time (30 mins) with no adverse wear or tear, although I would not recommend this.

Cons: The part of the sternum strap with the stitching is rough and rubbed my skin raw. I'll be taping some duct tape or sewing a cloth flap over that part. (Posted on 8/6/13)
