Friends Hike Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park – What a place! I planned this trip with 3 other friends of mine about 2 years ago. They all live back east and they have never been to Yosemite NP. I figured it would take a lot of planning so that’s why we decided to make this trip 2 years out. When it came down to trip time 2 of 3 of my buddies had to back out due to personal reasons. The 1 friend who made it is a seasoned backpacker who hiked the Appalachian Trail solo in about 10 years ago. I knew he was a great experienced backpacker and that made me feel good because I didn’t have to worry about anyone.

We started out on the Mist Trail heading to little Yosemite campground. I had my trusty Mariposa lightweight backpack and my ultralight carbon fibre LT4 poles. For those who have not seen or been on the Mist Trail let me paint a picture for you…The trail is all uphill with amazing views of Vernal Falls and a section of steep carved granite steps that seem to go on forever. Once you make it to the top you have a nice flat spot for taking pictures, high fives or whatever tickles you’re fancy.

The half dome hike is the most scenic hike one can imagine…start to finish. Be in shape.

It’s easy to find better ones in the Sierra. Half Dome should be just the beginning, IMO… There are so many more places with even more sublime scenery out there that it will take a lifetime to find them all.
