The Way

A couple of months ago, Glen got an email from John Mead, President of Adventure 16, inviting him to a pre-release showing of The Way.  It is an inspirational story about family, friends, and the challenges of navigating a complicated world. Martin Sheen plays Tom, an American doctor who comes to France to collect the remains of his adult son, who died while walking the Camino de Santiago, also known as The Way of Saint James.  Glen has friends and family who have hiked the Camino, and has presented to the American Pilgrims at their annual gathering, so he jumped at the chance. He’s been talking up the movie ever since, and now that it’s in theaters, we can ALL go see it! Check it out, Glen says you won’t be disappointed, although you may not be taking gear tips away from the movie.

I went to see “The Way” Saturday night, I enjoyed it allot. The scenery was spectacular. I particularly enjoyed how the relationships developed between the hikers as they hiked together for several weeks.

I walked the Camino Frances a year ago. Enjoyed this movie, have been able to see it multiple times and look forward to buying it on DVD this February (when it will be available in the USA).

I wanted to do a long walk and the camino appealed to me because the logistics were not complicated and there was support along the way if I needed it. I was going alone and while I love being in the wilderness, doing the PCT or AT or other long distance walk “in the woods” alone stills seems a little daunting for me.

One pilgrim I walked with a ways was very proud of the Gossamer pack he carried.

I really enjoyed it, really should what the experience was all about. I just got back from a walk From Seinna Italy to Cahors France. Via the Alps on the Franchisana/cameno trails very cool. Did the walk of the Cameno two years very special a wonderful way to see the old world. 8 lbs was key to my success. Spring is a good time to go wild flowers everywhere…. Guliver
