SUMMARY:New Hampshire: Map and Compass Instructional Weekend (9/26-9/28)
DESCRIPTION:Join Trail Ambassador Philip Werner for an introduction to the black art of off-trail hiking and cross-country compass navigation\, including two days of hands-on practice. If you've always wanted to learn truly how to use a compass\, this is the course for you. We'll cover maps\, compass\, navigation\, and intentional bushwhacking\, and will then apply these skills to hike two actual trail-less mountains. The second (Sunday) hike is optional\, and entails a full day of bushwhacking -- possibly finishing as late as 7:00 on Sunday evening.

DESCRIPTION:This will be the 21st ALDHA-West Gathering\, join us for this years events where you can do the following; enjoy the movie Wayfaring by "Squatch" Scott Herriott\, partake in Hiker Olympics\, and watch this years "Triple Crown" recipients recive their awards at Saturday's night award ceremony. DESCRIPTION:Every year\, people from all over the world come to trek along one of the pilgrimage routes from The Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Join Gossamer Gear Trail Ambassador and veteran pilgrim Heather Knight who will shares her experiences as well as advice for those planning to make the trek. Topics covered will include the routes\, gear\, planning\, travel arrangements and preparation.

DESCRIPTION:Join Trail Ambassador Erik Schlimmer who will host a multi-media program about the Trans Adirondack Route. Erik is a founding member of Friends of the Trans-Adirondack Route and will be here to discuss the history of this cross Adirondack route and his group’s mission to maintain and promote its use. SUMMARY:Pennsylvania: Backpack the Allegheny Front Trail (9/10-9/12)
DESCRIPTION:Join Trail Ambassador Dan Bortz for a 2.5 day/2-night trip on the Allegheny Front Trail. The AFT is a 42-mile loop\, which circumnavigates Black Moshannon State Park (just north of State College). This hike covers varied terrain such as high vistas\, wetlands\, riverbanks\, and meadows. We will meet at the eastern parking lot on Rt. 504 east of Black Moshannon State Park at 7:30PM on 9/10. That night\, we'll hike in about 5.5 miles and make camp. Day 2 will be 19-21 miles\, and we'll hike the remainder on Friday. With the exception of a few tough climbs\, the terrain is relatively gentle\, but the mileage will require you to be in good hiking condition\, but no prior backpacking experience is required. SUMMARY:Pennsylvania: Susquehanna Super Hike (9/6)
DESCRIPTION:Join Trail Ambassadors Dan Bortz and Jen Adach (along with members of Berks-Lehigh Hiking & Backpacking and the DC UL Meetup) who will be participating in the Keystone Trails Association’s Susquehanna Super Hike. This trail challenge event on the Mason Dixon and Conestoga Trails alternates strenuous climbs to scenic vistas with descents into dark hollows. Participants have their choice of hiking 23.4 or 29.6 miles. Shuttles\, food\, water\, a T-shirt\, and a KTA membership are included with the registration fees. Camping is available.
