gossamer gear winter

11/12/11 | Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

We drove all night from Missouri and took to the trail. It was a beautiful day with less than an inch of snow on the landscape. We hiked several miles up the mountain and pitched our tent. That night we were awakened by, "Incredibly strong winds that would be the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane […] many locations reported gusts in excess of 100mph downing power lines and trees and creating hazardous driving conditions." ( Weather report) We were forced to readjust our guy lines at the peak of the storm, it was a total whiteout. We contemplated hiking back to the car, but that was impossible. As 15" of snow fell that night, the wind blew it directly under our rainfly and was burying us (and our gear) inside the tent. I barricaded the mesh wall of the tent with my Gossamer Gear pad and pushed my body against it. For the next 8 hours I laid there, against my Gossamer Gear pad, praying for the wind to let up. I personally don't know how we would have made it through that night without that pad. It is a wonderful product, super light (you won't even notice it on your pack) and dense enough to stop powdered snow in hurricane winds. What more would you want out of a product? Gossamer Gear saved my life. Thank you!

I wish I had a picture of the Gossamer Gear pad in use that night, but taking pictures was the least of my concerns that night.

Thank you for a wonderful product.
