Dan Bortz’s Ultralight Backpacking Gear List

3 day backpacking gear list

Gossamer Gear Trail Ambassador Dan Bortz

This gear list is designed for 2-3 day backpacking trips in the spring and fall in the forests of the Middle-Atlantic Region. Typical daytime temperatures range from 50-70 degrees.  Overnight temps can be anywhere between 30 and 45 degrees. The terrain is infamously rocky, but can also be muddy or swampy because the trails often travel in and out of hollows and stream valleys.

You’ve got a great hammock setup! Just curious about your sleeping setup- do you use the nightlight pad under your legs since you have a yeti underquilt (not a full length UQ, at least it isn’t for me)? Do you just sleep in your hiking clothes? Didn’t notice you carry long underwear.
