We will drive to Durango in SW Colorado on Thursday, car camping just outside of town. On Friday, we will take the Durango to Silverton train to Elk Park in the heart of the Rockies. From here we start 4 days of backpacking – bouncing back and forth between 10,000′ and 13,000′.
The hike is along creeks, beaver ponds, and high mountain lakes. There will be opportunities to fish on at least three of the four nights. A fair amount of the hiking will be done along the Continental Divide Trail. We will finish the hike on Monday with a route back through Chicago Basin to catch the train back to Durango. I’ll send the exact route and GPS track to those that sign up.
This hike is well suited to strong, experienced backpackers due to the length of the trip and the altitude. If you’re interested, jump on the waitlist and we’ll have a discussion about the trip. The $25.00 deposit is to ensure if you sign up you actually are committing to go. The $25 will be refunded at the trailhead.
