Join Trail Ambassador Philip Werner for an Appalachian Mountain Club Compass Navigation Practice Hike to Wolf Cub Mountain.
Are your compass navigation skills a bit rusty? If so, we’ll practice planning an off-trail route, following a compass bearing, and interpreting terrain features as we hike to Wolf Cub Mountain (3053′), a trailless peak on the NH3000 footer list. We’ll start this hike by following the Kinsman Ridge Trail (AT) to Gordon Pond before heading off-trail. All participants should bring a compass, but please leave your GPS at home. Some experience using a compass and map is required, but please don’t feel that you need to be an expert. Our goal is to give you an opportunity to practice, work together, and learn how to hike efficiently off-trail. Total distance 10.0 miles: 7.5 miles on trail and 2.5 miles off trail. May be combined with leader’s other weekend hike. Register at REGI link: http://regi.amcboston.org/672
