Joe Newton
Joe Newton has spent much of his life outdoors, cycling and fishing from a young age, but it wasn’t until re-constructive knee surgery that he discovered hiking, being encouraged by his physiotherapist to walk rough trails. The more time he spent in the simple pursuit of physical therapy the more he enjoyed his time away from the modern world and pretty soon he was camping whenever possible too. After working as a Public Health Officer for 15 years in England a chance to move to the west coast of Norway presented itself and despite having to learn a new language and start a new career he has never been happier. The wide open spaces, jagged mountains and stunning scenery on the west coast of Norway captured his heart and he now works part time at an international school and part time as a ski instructor during the winter months. Despite the wet, windy weather of Bergen and the surrounding area Joe enjoys exploring the wilderness on his doorstep and beyond.

Favourite Training Ground: The western mountains and fjords of Norway. The scenery is simply stunning, the contrast between the soaring peaks and the deep water makes my jaw drop.
Current plans: Two high mountain routes with UL gear during the 2010 summer vacation. 2011? Watch this space…
