Carl Rush grew up on a farm in northwest NJ, not far from the Appalachian Trail. He started backpacking at an early age with his cousin John, they each carried half of a world war two pup tent. Carl’s favorite trail is the Pacific Crest Trail and has been out there seven different summers, he has also thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail and many smaller trails. Carl won the best gear contest at the ADZPCTKO back in 2004. He is also a certified group leader for the Appalachian Mountain Club and is also certified in wilderness first aid. He got into ultra-lightweight backpacking after breaking a vertebra while climbing (well falling) and uses both the G4 and G5 packs and a Squall Classic tent.
