Christy “Rockin’” Rosander loves to backpack, climb, day hike, and enjoy the outdoors all season long. The Southern Sierra Nevada Mountains are her backyard playground and where her trail name “Rockin’” originated from–a testament to her enthusiasm for climbing big rocks in California. Christy has hiked 1800 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, the Sierra High Route, climbed most of the fourteen thousand foot peaks from Mt. Whitney to Mt. Rainier, and backpacked countless cross-country treks through the Sierras. She loves sharing her passion for the outdoors with anyone who will listen. After years of hiking with her husband, children, and friends, she was inspired three years ago to begin the journey of thru-hiking solo. After a brief chat with a lady/section hiker that was resting on a rock and hearing her story, Christy gained the confidence that she too could strike out solo. This began the dream of hiking the PCT a section at a time. Hence her hiking blog name, Lady on a Rock. Through daily trail blogging, long-distance hiking, and trail angel support, Christy has found herself immersed in the virtual and physical worlds of the hiker community fostering many quality relationships.
As an elementary school teacher, Christy was able to combine her passions for hiking and teaching by creating tHInK outsidE. This website provides resources and lessons for teaching middle and high school students wilderness skills, outdoor adventure, and thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.
Christy’s quest for lighter, safer, and more efficient gear choices is motivated by the goal to hike healthy for many years to come. She recently entered the wonderful and light world of Cuben Fiber and is always looking for ways to lighten her load. After being part of this sport for 20 years, Christy continues to learn, test and refine gear, and dream of new trips.
