Best daily driver backpack for work that I’ve ever had. Just the right amount of size and shape for carrying lunch, shakes, obviously coffee, and small essentials. Hand sanitizer and headache medicine are other permanent features in my strap pockets. Top handles are…well, handy. If I ever lost this one I’d buy the exact same one again.
A fantastic and incredibly spacious backpack with intentional and well thought out design decisions. Feels super robust when packed out, holds up well when not. Robic nylon is an excellent fabric choice. Super light, feels indestructible. Stretch pockets are super strong. Design quirks clarify with use: tight opening compacts your kit (“carry less, do more!”), fabric overlap protects the laptop compartment, and the little hollow at the top fits a jacket/rolled up mat or tent perfectly with tote handles secured with a carabiner. Absolutely love it!
Wow. What a sweet pack. This will be my daily driver especially when commuting on my ebike. The pack fits inside my bike basket really well even with a 16 inch laptop inside. I will be using it as my minimalist travel back for multi day visits by jet to see my folks. I will also be using this as my ski pack, day hiking pack, and biking bag. My first Gossamer Gear pack and I am super impressed with the craftsmanship and materials selection and design of this bag. Super pumped!
Really nice bag. Well designed. I like the handles at the top. I use it as my personal items bag for air travel, then as a backpack once I arrive at the destination. Would buy again.
So far I’ve had it for 2 weeks using it as a travel bag. Typical computer bag. It Carries way better than any Swiss bag I’ve owned. I’ve learned if you have more places to put stuff you will. So I’m only carrying what I need and there is plenty of room to shove items in the bag and the mesh on the out side. Not the most organized bag you’ll find but has enough pockets to carry the essentials for work travel. I found my other bag was way over loaded and I didn’t need all of it.
Poor repairability. The pack lasted a decent amount of time before the main zipper broke. I would like to repair it, but the repair costs are the same as buying a new pack.
Bought the original Vagabond 7years ago. It’s been a diaper bag, snowboard bag, carry-on (It fits exactly under the seat in front of you). It’s showing its years so this year I got the Vagabond Jet. It’s new and improved and better. Love it !!
It is what it is, which is good. It looks great with the logo badge removed which is easily done. Using it for dayhikes and one- and two-bag travel.
The only thing missing is a port for a hydration hose. Hoping this would be one bag to rule them all but without a way to use my hydration bag I can only use this on shorter hikes where water bottles will provide enough hydration. Been daily driving this pack for about 2 years. It has done well and held up ok to heavy use. I take it to work. I take it to haul groceries I take it travelling. I take it to the crag. Handles weight well thanks to the large straps, and rides tolerably well with a 70m rope strapped to the top between the handles. Main complaints: the laptop pocket has bust its bottom seam in the past few months and the stitching in the back panel started coming apart after only 6-8 months. The straps are also overly stiff making it a bit hard to put on and frequently causing the sternum buckle to poke into my skin a bit. I have a hard time getting my phone into the strap pocket despite it being a relatively slim device. It's otherwise a good pack. I'd have to find a pretty nifty pack to consider not just replacing this with another when it fully bites the dust.
The other day I grabbed the bag with work items and walked to the coffee shop to get some stuff done. I then went for a five mile hike straight from my work session. The bag handled both uses perfectly and shows the true hybrid potential of this bag between city and trail without compromises. This is a super versatile pack with enough pockets and dividers to be functional, but not so many that the you lose too much volume or have unused pockets (good for folks that like to use pouches but keep a few things and a computer at the ready). And while I don't always use them, the mesh pockets are invaluable. Gladly, they blend in well with the back, keeping the bag looking more city than mountain. I just packed the bag up for a weekend trip and was reminded how much it can swallow. But, when you don't have much in there, it compresses and carries like a smaller bag without much bulk. This is the most comfortable daypack I've ever had, and I've had some of the comfort leaders in the industry. It took a week for the straps to really break in, but now it's bliss. The type of padding on the shoulder straps and their shape does an amazing job of moving weight forward of the shoulders, more like a pack-vest. The back can get a little warm, but it's really comfortable and ergonomic. Of all the packs I've had, this one allows for, and encourages the most natural and upright posture.
I dig this pack. It's comfortable. The primary use for me is that it looks good when I carry it in the airport. Definitely different then all the standard brands. One thing I would like added to the jet model is a way to attach the backpack to a roller luggage handle.
This Backpack is hands down the last day pack you will ever need! It’s my go to for everything. Camping, in town , diaper bag , EDC! The straps are super comfy and dose not put a lot of weight on your back or shoulders. The pockets on the straps are good for phones, bottles, snacks you name it! This Bag can take a beating. Snow, rain or shine. A very well thought out piece or gear that you will not regret buying.
ONE BAG TO RULE THEM ALL No, really. This bag is what I would call “good design.” I just got it, and will update this review once I’ve used it for a while. But, here are the fantastic things about this bag: the fabric and make is very high quality, the zippers are the same, I can fit a wide mouth Nalgene on one side and my 16oz coffee thermos on the other with the bag fully packed without any issues, it can fit lunch, gym clothes, school supplies like a binder, large sketchbook, and —the BEST part—my 16” Lenovo i5 laptop. It is a large gaming laptop, and just fits, but I don’t have to struggle to get it in/out of the laptop sleeve. I got the fast belt as well, and while it doesn’t transfer all the weight, it for sure helps and is a great spot to put little items (my iPhone 12 mini fits in the fast belt pocket). This bag takes the place of about three other bags. My cycling around town bag, my office bag, and probably my hiking daypack. I do see how the straps may be stiff when the pack is unweighted, but it didn’t seem to bother my neck at all. Maybe if you’re a very small person? And, I get the criticism of the top potentially collecting water. But and also the top is such an awesome design that it gives a lot of extra space when you stuff a jacket in at the top. It’s a non issue when the pack is full and for me a non issue all together. It is very comfortable to carry even with about 12lbs in the bag. Thank you, Gossamer Gear! I rarely write reviews, but am so impressed by the quality of the bag, your customer service was great when I had sizing questions, and the shipping was very fast. The only “suggestion” is that I would love to see hiking pole loops on the front strap. But, I also get this is a minimalist pack. Overall, I am so pleased with this bag. Design and quality 10/10. For reference: I am 5’5” and 140lbs

I’ve had this pack for years now and it continues to be my go-to for almost everything. It’s got a very comfortable fit. The materials are bombproof. The handles at the top and the phone pouch on the shoulder strap are a must have for me. Highly recommend!!
Bought this bag for a 6 week trip in Scotland traveling and working--needed to carry laptops and iPad but also make it up a mountain. Purchased the hip belt for hiking. Probably wore this bag between 3-8 hours everyday. It is super comfortable thanks to the wide straps and back pad. I never ran out of room--it was crazy how much stuff you could put into this bag. The carry handles were great when traveling. It shrugged off small rainstorms without an issue. Overall, this bag can do it all and at a great price.

This is a very comfortable bag and it works well as a backpack but the zipper opening and color make it difficult to find things inside the bag.
Perfect personal item backpack This is the perfect personal item backpack. I've used it on Frontier and Spirit and it fits easily under the seat. I walked over a mile with it on and fully loaded and it was a breeze. I could have easily done 5 more with it. My wife even commented that it is super comfy when she wore it for a bit on the return leg. Materials and construction are excellent and I'm very happy with the purchase. So much so that I purchased a second one for my wife.
Great personal item-sized bag Really loving this backpack. Lightweight and excellent build quality. Just the right amount of internal organization and handy stretchy pockets on the exterior. My wife even carried it for a bit on a weekend trip and commented on how comfortable is was. No problems fitting in the personal item sizer on a recent weekend trip.
Great starting point with a lot of room for improvement They got the materials and form of the bag right! Very lightweight and weatherproof which is hard to find with EDC. The external mesh pocket on the back is great and the mesh on each shoulder strap are very handy. Room for improvement: - it is hard to get in and our of the bag with the current opening design - the top design also creates a indentation where water can accumulate during rain - the interior is too dar to easily see sub divisions and internal features - too few organization options - no strap management - hip belt is a different color - water bottle pockets should be deeper to limit fall out
Best everyday carry backpack ever I use this backpack for everything!!! Hiking, working, walking around town. The front mesh makes it really easy to store a jacket, and the main body allows me to bring a laptop to work. The front 2 shoulder pockets allow me to store my phone and other things. I really wish this can be back in stock so I can recommend it to more people, and looking forward to the next iteration. I improved this by buying fast belts and dying them black to match!

Great, needs taller water bottle pockets I love this pack! It feels so good to carry, even all day long. I have a few things I would love to see on this pack as well as a wish for a slight larger version. 1. This pack really needs to have taller water bottle mesh pockets. They are too shallow. I would also like to see them use the same material that ULA uses on their ultra packs for mesh. 2. The outer mesh stuff pocket would be awesome if it had a zipper at the top. 3. A slightly more burly material on bottom, maybe the Ultra material that ULA uses on their dragonfly. 4. This bag is my favorite for 1-3 day trips without the need for much stuff. I would love a 35L version for longer trips. Maybe this could be made out of the indestructible Ultra material, or maybe a version of this pack made from Ultra.

3 years on! Still using the Vagabond Trail as an everyday pack and a daypack for mountain hikes. It is still as good as the day I bought it except for some sun bleaching, as to be expected living in Spain. I have found the limitation regards how much weight it can carry comfortably at which point I use a backpack with a hip-belt, but for the most part, still an excellent pack.
Digital nomad dream I used this backpack for a year of digital nomading and it couldn’t have been more perfect. When you’re living out of a suitcase, every item you have needs to be very useful and ideally multi-purpose, and this bag fit that perfectly. I used it for work trips, as a carryon item, and then when hiking it switches easily from work bag to hiking bag. And somehow it always has all the little features you need no matter what use you out it to. Could not have been happier with this.
Best Travel Buddy I've ever had... This bag is perfect for my everyday work bag, and is always ready to hop on a plane with me! I love the mesh outer pocket, and the water bottle holders actually work well with nalgenes and big bottles. I have recommended it to all of my friends!
The travel alternative I've been using the vagabond trail as my daily driver for 2 years now, on the trail and off. It goes to work with me and carries all my essentials, but also takes everything that the desert throws at it with pretty much no visible wear after 2 years. With an upcoming trip and the interest to have both a work/life bag and a trail bag ready to go, I picked up the jet. It has a few subtle changes like the inside pocket flipped to the back panel tucked with the protective sleeve areas, a more opaque mesh on front, and a more ridgid back panel and these all worked great for a 5 day nyc trip. Electronics stayed protected, extra layers, water bottle, all the little essentials fit perfect, and it remains light so I forget I'm wearing it. This version is perfect for daily life for me.
NYC to Upstate Trails I've thoroughly enjoyed using the Vagabond Jet for the past month, and it has now claimed the vaunted title of favorite backpack in an admittedly overfilled closet of excellent bags. I really appreciate the subtle design vocabulary that nevertheless compromises nothing in features or durability. This bag expertly treads the fine line between being able to hang with the corporate crowd in midtown Manhattan during a rush hour morning, while still looking at home on trails in the Hudson Valley. The textile choices all feel very premium, and the build-quality is flawless. It holds a deceptively large volume of things, and balances the load well with wide shoulder straps. The laptop/tablet dual-sleeve design is super useful for selective access.
My go-to bag for school & carry-on Tote handles are incredibly useful. Why haven't more companies tried that? Large mesh pocket is the highest quality mesh I've seen, and I actually use this pocket often. Tablet pouch keeps the iPad just below the zipper for easy access. Love the slim profile and adjustable chest strap location on straps. Does great in the rain, and the bottom of bag exterior is super waterproof so no worries setting it down. Big fan of the Vagabond Jet!
Wow!!!! I do not leave the house without it! My job requires I carry my computer everywhere. Plenty of storage for the essentials, and super comfortable. Cannot reccomend it enough!
A43, pack—versatile and sturdy I’ve been using the Vagabond Jet Pack (hah) for about a year, and it’s held up superbly. You can take it on the trail or the plane with equal ease. I have both the packable and trail versions of the Vagabond, and prefer this one for its versatility and pure black color way. The only thing lacking is it has a single attachment point for the optional hip belt, rather than two, so if you have a longer torso and want to use a hip belt, the Vagabond Trail is the better choice. I’ll always reach for this one for bumming around town, going shopping and bringing my laptop, that kind of thing.
Amazing Backpack! I have been searching for the perfect daypack for about 20 years! I use a pack daily for shopping, shopping, etc. I've been looking for something light, comfortable, and with a lot of pockets for easy access to phone & wallet. This pack hits all the marks - super light and comfortable. I love that I don't have to take the pack off to find my credit card while checking out at the market! I love that I don't have to take the pack off to find my phone to make a call/text, or take a photo while hiking! I'm only 4'11" and 95 lbs., and was worried about the reviews from smaller folks who found the straps to be uncomfortable and the pack to be too big, but I have not found this to be the case at all. My pet peeve is uncomfortable straps, and this pack has the most comfortable straps ever!! I love Gossamer Gear, thank you for creating the perfect daypack!!
Huge Value I’ve had this bag for sometime now and it is nothing short of spectacular. The Vagabond is so versatile and reliable. I put clothes, sundries, laptop AND work materials in this bag and can literally travel so easily and swiftly. This is definitely not a bag for the trail, but rather is the ideal travel ruck. Extremely well made and strong. Massive value for the price.
The perfect travel pack for overseas Not to big not small. Fits everything you from extra clothes to camera and lens’s. Lightweight. Compact even when full. Our 16 year old is taking to Europe for travel.
Wish it fit me This pack is super cool and different from every other tactical or techy bag out there. I love the blending of the ultralight/lightweight approach from hiking packs and applying that to an EDC pack. The front stretch pocket is clutch and it feels like there is a frame sheet in the back panel which can only help when carrying heavy items. The top handles feel very sturdy and the zippers are nice and water resistant. Unfortunately — with all of these great things about this pack — I had to return it. The shoulder straps are way too wide and/or are sewn too close together. As a result, they rub the sides of my neck. Like other reviewers who have issues with the pack, I’m pretty short/petite. It’s such a bummer. I hope that GG reconsiders their shoulder strap design whenever they update this pack down the road so that it can be worn by more than just tall dudes ha. I don’t have this issue with the packable vagabond so I guess I shall stick with that for now!
